“Images of the Park,” an exhibit of the work of three area photographers in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, will be presented June 7-8 at Grey Towers National Historic Site, Milford, PA.

Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the US Forest Service at Grey Towers and the Grey Towers Heritage Association, this unique photo exhibit will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, with a reception and “Meet the Artist” session sponsored by the Friends group. The opening will be followed at 5:30 pm by a free concert on the grounds of Grey Towers, co-sponsored by the Forest Service and the Heritage Association. The exhibit also will be open to the public on Sunday, June 8, from 11 am-5 p.m.

The exhibit, featuring the works of John Kiersten of Florida, NY, Jordan Lewis of Bushkill, PA, and Anita Ray of Milford, PA, showcases the natural wonders of the 70,000-acre recreation area. Grey Towers, ancestral home of the Pinchot family, has a long-standing tradition of combining nature and the arts. The US Forest Service partners with many organizations to continue that legacy today through its Conservation and the Arts programs.

Kiersten has been displaying his black and white prints taken with large format 8x10 and 8x20 cameras at Peters Valley Gallery for several years. He has concentrated on the recreation area for its unique history, landscape, flora and fauna to share the fundamental beauties of this national park.

Lewis is an opera singer and photographer who operates an arts production studio for classical music and digital fine art print making. For Lewis, his combination of music and images is nurtured by the extraordinary gift the local national park offers for peace and renewal of the artistic soul.

Ray, known for her undersea photography, in recent years turned her camera to the wonders of the Delaware River Valley. Her photography contributes to recording the turbulent history of this paradise along with the reclamation of the land by natural processes.

“We are pleased to be able to present the unique styles of three wonderful artists at Grey Towers,” said Gail Wershing, president of the Friends.

The Friends of the Delaware Water Gap NRA is dedicated to supporting historic, scientific, educational, recreational, and natural resource management activities in the park and to raising funds for special park projects. Visit their website: www.FriendsofDEWA.org for more information or to join.

Delaware Water Gap NRA, the eighth most visited area in the National Park System, encompasses 70,000 acres of ridges, forests, lakes and rivers on both sides of the Delaware River in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The NRA offers a myriad of outdoor recreational opportunities, a rich and diverse sampling of regional flora and fauna, historic structures, craft centers, as well as environmental and outdoor education facilities. The Delaware River, the longest undammed river in the eastern United States, is part of the National Wild and Scenic River System; its exceptional quality waters provide both recreation and drinking water for millions of residents in neighboring metropolitan areas.
